Position Summary:

The position of the EHS Manager has the responsibility to guide managers to eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and/or property damage. This individual must apply advanced principles, methods, and techniques in safety-related elements, ergonomics; safety principles, standards, practices, analytical techniques including administrative duties.  This position reportstothe Director of Human Resources.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards;
  • Develop and implement safety training programs for compliance with OSHA regulations and other federal, state or local requirements;
  • Review occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards to determine their consistency to align company principles and practices and recommend changes as needed to the Director of HR;
  • Apply knowledge of mental/emotional and structural/working factors to assist in the assurance of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipment;
  • Work with Facilities Maintenance Engineering on safety requirements based on failure mode analysis of such factors as fatigue, stability, stress, concentration; develop and apply methods for protective equipment or safety devices for machines and plant equipment to eliminate occupational hazards;
  • First line contact with injured employees –responsible for reporting incidentstoinsurance providers, medical providers and provider follow up, including employee and management communications;
  • Facilitate and chair monthly company safety committee meetings; produce PowerPoint presentations, graphs, and action plans;
  • Responsible for enforcing and participating with the Food Regulations director on food and facility safety;
  • Actively engaged and responsible for environmental testing, inspections, monitoring and compliance
  • Lead person for emergency planning/evacuation and plant security;
  • Prepares a variety of statistical and administrative reports;
  • New hire training and other safety training as required.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of safety experience or commensurate safety management work experience.
