On behalf of Sustainable Business Institute, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey presented Clover Stornetta Farms the Seal of Sustainability™ in Washington D.C. at a Congressional briefing on October 23, 2007.
Clover Stornetta is one of seven companies in the world to be recognized with the Seal of Sustainability™. The seal recognizes Clover as being a business leader in the acceptance and adaptation of sustainable economic, social, and environmental business practices.
“I want to congratulate everyone at Clover for winning this important award. But I'm not surprised that Clover Stornetta is being recognized for its socially responsible policies,” said Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey. “Gene, who was a founder of the company, was well known for his commitment to the community. They like to say, ‘Enjoy Clover Products in Good Conscience and in Good Health,’ that’s not just a slogan, it’s a real promise to Clover Stornetta’s customers – a promise Clover Stornetta keeps everyday.”
Over the years Clover has worked hard to be a more sustainable company. In addition to the work it has done with the family farms that deliver milk to Clover, some of the achievements Clover has made include; developing a local source of organic milk to decrease its miles to market, converting its fleet to a 10 percent bio-diesel blend, removing all ammonia based cooling systems and changing to a Freon based system, installing a new waste water system that reduces Clover’s water consumption by 10 million gallons a year, and the list goes on.
