Some of Clover’s bobtail trucks are running cleaner these days because they are cooling the product inside using cold plate technology instead of diesel fuel. Cold plate technology has been around for many years in various forms. As insulation in trucks has become better over the years, cold plate technology has started emerging again, this time as a cleaner way to cool the goods inside.
Our cold plate trucks are plugged in at night during off peak hours, and are able to maintain the necessary “just above freezing” temperature for 48 hours. They are also less of an environmental impact than trucks cooled using diesel fuel. In fact, cold plate technology costs up to seven times less annually than running diesel in the refrigeration units.*
Not only is cold plate technology cleaner, but it’s quieter without the use of a diesel powered refrigeration unit. This is just one of the many ways Clover is working toward a sustainable future.
* Environmental Protections Agency (EPA) emissions data from production to consumption: 1 gallon of diesel fuel = 22 lbs of carbon dioxide. This equates to approximately 236,016 lbs CO2 emissions saved annually.
